There were lots of birds in the garden today. Unfortunately, this caught the attention of a sparrowhawk. He had a go at catching some of the smaller birds but then decided to go after a young jay that was separated from the flock. They were chasing around one of the conifers for 10 minutes or so. You can see the jay is terrified in this photo. We think he got away though.

There were large flocks of hawfinches, greenfinches and siskins flying around the valley this morning. Here's a photo of four hawfinches in a tree.

I just about got to my camera in time to snap this flock of common cranes flying over the house this morning. They are our 87th bird species seen from our garden.

I finally got a photo of the flock of fieldfare that have been flying around.

Although it snowed last week, the weather is generally quite mild and dry. This probably explains the fact that we're still seeing black redstarts.
