General Information

This moth is grey with orange/yellow fringes and leading edge to wings. The female is slightly larger and browner. There is also an orange form (f. unicolor) and very dark form (f. plumbia).

 

Pupates in a crevice in tree bark.

Overwinters as a larva.
Both sexes come to light.

Forewing length: 15-17mm.
Foodplant(s): lichen, algae
Flying: One generation, July-August
UK Presence: Resident
National status: Not endangered

Habitat

Woodland, scrubland and chalky downland.

Regional Information

Recorded in 1 (0.4%) of the 270 2km squares of Baden-Württemberg.
